Alnwick Castle is a family day out to fire the imagination. Home to the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, it is one of the largest inhabited castles in England. Known as the ‘Windsor of the North’, it has witnessed battles, rebellions, tragedy and romance, and has been home to a variety of interesting people – from Harry Hotspur to Harry Potter.
Enjoy a tour of the collections of art and furniture in the treasure-filled State Rooms, or join a Battleaxe to Broomsticks tour to find out about the Castle’s starring film roles and about our two famous Harrys and how they shaped the future of Alnwick. Join our resident Hogwartian professors and prefects for broomstick training on the very spot of Harry’s first lesson. Learn medieval crafts and skills in Knight’s Quest, before putting your skills to the test when facing the beast that lies within Dragon Quest.
The Castle has dominated the town of Alnwick since medieval times – inside its battlements you'll find a host of activities based around Alnwick's rich history. Over 700 years of ownership, the Percys have achieved fame and fortune in many ways, from military endeavours to alchemy, archaeology and education.
The Castle also holds a stunning private art collection, including works by Van Dyke and Canaletto, as well as the Northumberland Fusiliers Museum with weapons and memorabilia galore. There is so much to see and do: impressive architecture, sumptuous State Rooms, exhibitions, fine art treasures, stunning landscape, great children's activities, special events, dining and shopping.
Visit Alnwick Castle for a magical day out for all the family.
